I Got a Question For You

Corrie Canuksters, I don’t know if it is the climate change inspired warm weather in my neck of the woods or my super hot boots that have put me in a good mood. But does it really matter? So, to celebrate my lift in spirits, I think it’s time for some fun Street Trivia!

Coronation Street has had some memorable couples in the forty-some-odd years it has been on the air. But, can anyone tell me which couple, after missing a trip to Paris, spent the day at the airport and then pretended they actually went abroad?

We should go on a trip to Paris Deb - I could give you the official smurfy tour - which incorporates a fine blend of history and romance.

Hmm,, good one! Sounds like something someone snotty would do, (not snotty like a cold though), soooo, I could see Leanne, or Sally, or Cilla as one half of the 'couple',but not Kevin, Jamie or Les going along. Does that make sense? Any hints as to whether the charactors are on our screens now?

Debbie said...

Sorry, anon, that is incorrect.

Crap, I meant going along with the lie,, not going along to Paris. In other words, too many women on the show willing to try to make their lives look better than it really is, and the guys are just happy to plug along and go for a pint afterward,, no 'airs and graces' for them. Damn cold medication messin with my head here, sorry bout that!

Berlin ist ein gute idee, aber Ich liebe Munchen ganz viel. Bergsteiegen im morgen und bier und bratwurst im abend!

Jacqueline, get your own trip to Paris.

nous ne revienderons jamais
We will never return

It is the "will return" part of the translation.

I don't remember. I do remember Mavis and Derek bought a holiday off Alec Gilroy but the company went bust and they spent hours at the airport only to finally come home frustrated. It wasn't to Paris, though. It sounds like something Stan and Hilda would do

Was it Brent Butt on Corner Gas when he couldn't afford a vacation down South so he sat in a beach chair on the prairie and sent postcards, pretending to be on the Islands?

My guess is Curley and Raquel.

So here is the translation that i came up with:

Paris with Papa Smurf. Fantastic.
However I think we will never again meet in Paris.

So tonight I will say farewell to family and friends and then cut up Papa Smurf and put him in my suitcase.

Close?

Debbie said...

That's totally right, Papsmurf.

Ok

Time to announce the winner...

Drum roll, please.

Congratulations, Jacqueline. It was indeed Hilda and Stan Ogden. Back in February of 1972, Stan had promised Hilda a trip to Paris for her birthday. However, they missed their flight. Hence the pretence.

In that same year, Emily Nugent and Earnest Bishop got hitched, Rita started her relationship with Len Fairclough, the ladies of the street were spied on by a nasty peeping tom, and Alf Roberts' wife, Phyllis dies.

I'd like to thank you all for participating.
