Corrie Schedule Change

I got the heads up that there will be a change to the Corrie Schedule:

Corrie will be pre-empted for the traditional Labour Day football game on Monday,
September 3rd.

CBC will air a double-episode (7:00 - 8:00 pm) on Tuesday the 4th.

And for our American readers, I can confirm that it will be the Roughriders vs. the Roughriders.

(For the Canadian readers, yes, I of those teams no longer exists.)

Ummmm... so... who are the Rough Riders in Canadian History?

Enquiring minds want to know...

Oh, also, I see there's some sort of women's soccer tournament coming on to the CBC soon as well - will that affect Corrie?

The CFL had two football teams called the Roughriders.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Ottawa Roughriders.

But now Ottawa's team are the Renegades.

Aha. Somehow the idea of Roughriders from Sask. fits better than Ottawa. It's like the old commercials where the cowboys all talk about how "That there salsa was made in New York City." (NEW YORK CITY?!)

But when I hear the phrase "rough rider" (stop laughing, Glacia. you have a dirty, dirty mind!) I think of Teddy Roosevelt and his posse from that one war (Spanish American?)... charging up San Juan Hill (or alternately, Arsenic and Old Lace, which taught me more about TR than I learned in school.)

Sooo... was there a military outfit in Canada's military history that used the name as well? Or have Teddy and his boyz just gone down in history as "as cool as the Spartans, Vikings and other major tough guys"?

The Ottawa Renegades - because nobody's a rebel the way the folks who tell the rest of us what to do are rebels!

I'm feeling fairly perturbed by the utter hypocrisy behind the name.

I suggest the name gets changed to the Ottawa Pin Stripes.

Renegades, my aunt fanny!

Wasn't it Roughriders and Rough Rider? So they were kind of different, but not really? Not that it matters 'cuz it was still silly to have two teams in an eight team league with similar names. (anyone remember that Simpson's football episode? "Who are we?" "The Wildcats!" "And who are we gonna beat?" "The Wildcats!!")

And the Renegades don't exist anymore either...folded a couple of seasons ago. I miss them. :(

A mutiny in Canada's histroy. HAHAHAHAHA! i know that we do have some violence in our history, but it still strikes me funny.

"Hey Doug, sorry put down yer beer and pass me the musket eh."

Um...what is TR?

Teddy Roosevelt.

My mind was in the gutter.

Hello from the Green belt. You can't believe how they love their Rider football in this town. I'd forgotten. It's a religion.

Tanya's right. It was Rough Riders and Roughriders. And I loved the quirkiness of having two teams in a nine-team league having -- almost -- the same name.
