Nick the Corrie Tory

Former Corrie actor Adam Rickitt (our Nick Platt) is emerging as a potential replacement for Macclesfield Member of Parliament Sir Nicholas Winterton. However, not everyone is convinced Sir Nick is being replaced, including Sir Nick himself:

The 27-year-old pin-up, famous for his "six-pack" while playing the part of Nick Tilsley, is on the party’s candidates shortlist following an assured performance on BBC1’s Question Time.

National newspaper reports had suggested he could be a potential successor to 67-year-old Sir Nicholas, or his wife Lady Winterton, MP for Congleton.

An unconfirmed source was reported as saying: "The best constituency for Adam should be in the North West, which has the biggest percentage of Corrie viewers.

"Cheshire is a strong Tory county and people in the party are hoping either Sir Nicholas or his wife can be persuaded to stand aside for him."

But Sir Nicholas, who has been the town’s MP for almost 35 years, said: "I have to say that particular little snippet in the column was news to me as it was news to my association.

"Clearly this young man put in a good performance on the Question Time programme with confident and articulate answers."

I think the story right now is a bit of a media creation, what with the next British election 3 years away at least.

And Adam, the Tories? *shudders*
