Coronation Street: ‘Guilty Pleasure’ or ‘Loud and Proud’?

Why do many viewers consider Coronation Street a guilty pleasure? Why keep it a secret?

When I tell people (loudly and proudly) that I watch Corrie, the reaction is either:

a) Sneers.
b) Cheers.

What reactions have you received when you fessed up to your Corrie addiction?

Is Corrie your guilty pleasure? Or are you loud and proud?

I'm usually drunk and surly when I announce it...so most don't want to confront me.

Whenever I mention it in a public forum someone always reponds with 'me too!' - I think there are lots of us out there.

I also find there are a lot of people who are willing to admit they watch, and it amazes me how many guys out there watch it! Once they know that I watch,, they dont shut up about it (I am not complaining) Instead of asking "whats you sign" in the singles bars,, I think "Do you watch Corrie" would attract WAY more guys. If I wasn't married I would put that theory to the test.

I talk about it, but not regularly, although there have been a few people that I have convienced to start watching it, which is great.
