That’s Bloody Offal!

A black pudding thief is on the loose. In Canada!

A 45-kilogram box of black pudding was stolen from A Bit of Britain food shop in Maple Ridge, B.C. last week.

The theft means some local Brits will have to go without the concoction of beef blood, offal, [organ meat] suet and seasoning during the holiday season and into the New Year.

We had this growing up at my house in Toronto when my dad was alive. We only had it on special occasions like Christmas morning, Easter morning, etc., and only for breakfasts. We are not British but rather of far-off Irish heritage. We called it blood pudding or, "bu-dan", dunno why we did that. It was very good as I recall. Then when staying in Notts. at Nick's Uncle Harold's last summer, he did us a proper fry up, and again it appeared. Same exact thing we would have in my Toronto special occasion childhood breakfasts. Would be willing to eat this with any of you lot, anytime. You can get it at any deli counter at the St. Lawrence Market.

Betty: I think you may have got the "bu-dan" term from the French word for blood pudding... "boudin noir." If you ever consider a career change, you should lead food tours of the St. Lawrence Market. I used to live in Kensington Market but visited St. Lawrence Market once in a while. I'd like to see it through your eyes.
