Suranne’s New TV Role

Coronation Street veteran Suranne Jones went to incredible lengths to appear in Ray Winstone's new detective drama, Vincent.

The actress, best known as unstable seamstress Karen McDonald, auditioned for the part of Beth while filming her final Corrie scenes last year. With both shows shot in Manchester, it wasn't too far to travel.

However, once she said goodbye to Weatherfield, the award-winning thespian went on holiday to Australia. When Granada's casting people asked her to do a screen test with Winstone, she decided the role was too good to miss and came back to England.

Thankfully all the hard work paid off and she was snapped up for the stylish ITV1 series which begins on October 10. (in the UK)

Many viewers will be quick to compare her character, Beth, with her former soap alter ego, Karen. So who does she think is sexier?

"I don't see things in terms of whether they're sexy or not," she explained. "I just think if relationships work between the characters, then that's up to the audience to decide."

Suranne has fond memories of her time on Corrie, even if she does compare it to being like "Groundhog Day on a treadmill".

"Some of us called it 'going to school', because we all felt like naughty children and the director was the headmaster," she laughs.

With positive reviews for her work in the West End stage hit A Few Good Men, and a second series of Vincent in the pipeline, is there any chance of Suranne returning to the show that made her name?

"I adore Coronation Street and the opportunity it gave me, so maybe. If they'll have me."
