The Coronation Street / Star Trek Connection

"Vera Duckworth in Star Trek VIII"

Could someone please explain why many Coronation Street fans are also Trekkers? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) I’m intrigued. Has anyone written a thesis on this phenomenon? I’ve also noticed a strong Corrie / Dr. Who link.

that's very weird - i never knew that there was any kind of affiliation - i guess i'm one of those people who watches both....

I never really thought about it before but I think I can see a connection. Star Trek and Corrie have created fictional universes that the average viewer would like to visit and even live in. They've also both been on the air for forty years.

almost 40 years for S.T.

I'm 8 days younger than it.

Yes, that is my geek claim to fame.

Wow - I have well and truly *found* my people! Corrie and Trek? I have died and gone to heaven. I don't really know what the connection is, but I now can't shake the mental image of William Shatner doing a cameo on the Street...beam me up, Beamish!

I'm with you Pamer. I've tried watching Dr. Who a couple of times, but have never managed to make it through an entire episode.

Okay - confession.

Don't care for Dr.Who...marginally like S.T. - but only liked STNG.

But I'm sure Corrie Canuck can be the place where we can show the world that Trekkers and normal people can live together in harmony.

(I'm just KIDDING about the normal part. God knows I'm not normal.)

Some of my best friends are trekkers and I've been pretending for 39 years that I'm one.

It was just time for me to come out of the closet.
