The Axeman Cometh

Coronation Street stars are bracing themselves for the arrival of the show's tough new boss.

Producer Steve Frost made dramatic changes while in charge of Emmerdale and had it snapping at the heels of EastEnders in the ratings war.

A TV source said: "No doubt there'll be a few twitchy people down at the Corrie studios when the news comes out. It's always a bit nervy when someone new comes in."

Stars know to expect as Frost will replace Tony Wood, another no-nonsense boss who has seen Corrie enjoy top slot since taking over two years ago.

The source added: "If it means established people getting the chop then so be it. Both these guys do whatever they think necessary to keep the ratings high.

"There has been blood on the walls at both Corrie and Emmerdale while they've been in charge of the ITV1 soaps."

Frost, who has just produced the new series of The Royal which will be seen on ITV1 next year, said: "I'm honoured and excited to be taking on a programme of Coronation Street's stature."
